CANDLE MAKING

SUN NOV 8, 3-6pm

$60 Contribution - limited to 12p


Transform wax into light by learning the ancient craft of beeswax candles with craft teacher and beekeeper V Lubner. We will explore the spiritual dimensions of candle dipping and the act of creation. Through our collective making and reflections, we will transform the exhibit itself. 


Participants will contribute candles to the exhibition until our closing on Dec 12. Workshop supported by the Station North Tool Library.

WILLOW WEAVING

$60 Contribution - limited to 8p


Wild willow bundles collected on intentionally stewarded land will become woven willow trays with craftspeople and beekeepers Jenn Kim and Ben Walsh-Mellett. We will contemplate seasons and cycles, as we build weaving skills. We will bring form and function to this raw material with our work. 


Participant trays will become part of the exhibition until our closing on Dec 12.

MYTH MAKING

Join novelist Kate Reed Petty for a writing workshop inspired by "Telling the Bees" and the long human tradition of storytelling about and with honeybees. We'll explore personal and family histories, then dreams, archetypes, and myths to transform our storytelling into timeless wisdom.


Participants will be invited to contribute a piece to a Community Anthology of Myths, published in partnership with Jess Jess Press.

As land, economies, and society face new pressures, grassroots resilience shapes our future. 


Our Mutualist Circle will surface practical wisdom from local leaders in land stewardship, food sovereignty, mutual aid, intergenerational learning, and self-reliance. Insights from Sara Horowitz of the Mutualist Society and Marc Carr of the Southern Solutions Network will shape our conversation.

Join organizers and artists Andy Cook and Michelle Geiss for an inside look at the AMERICAN BEEKEEPER project. Hear stories from the road and insights shared through beekeeper interviews. 


This artist talk will tour the exhibit to explore themes of place, memory, healing, history, and land use. Tour will be followed by a Q&A and honey tasting.

Nationally renowned scientist Clare Maffei shares a riveting look into the world of native bees. Meet Maryland's 40 native species up close and personal. Hear from beekeeper Jordan Bethea on how land restoration work at Baltimore's Bliss Meadows provides sanctuary and habitat for native bees and honeybees. Learn how their land stewardship model has evolved.

Celebrate the opening of the American Beekeeper exhibit and events at the Making Space Gallery. This is a chance for friends, family, contributors, and the public to see this body of work exhibited for the first time. Over 40 new works by Andy Cook represent the largest exhibition of his film photography to date. Images and objects invite you to the edges of America and into the sacred work of beekeepers at all scales.

HONEY MARKET

Honey has been prized by humanity as food and medicine for 10,000 years. Meet local beekeepers who sell honey and other products from the hive. Connect with local healers and organizations that provide healing services and products with honeybees. Organized in partnership with Hon's Honey, Hexed Honey, and Bliss Meadows.

Join for the closing circle of our exhibition at Making Space Gallery. All contributors and participants will be welcomed back to share stories, insights, and celebrations. Reflect on the transformation of wax, willow, and paper into new forms. Hear myths from our community anthology. Set an intention as we approach the end of this year.
